Clean Vehicle Rebate Project

ARB’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) is designed to accelerate widespread commercialization of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by providing consumer rebates up to $2,500 to partially offset the higher cost of these advanced technologies.  These vehicles are a key element of California's strategy for meeting health based air quality standards and climate change goals. 

The CVRP is administered statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE).  In Fiscal Years 2009-11, $11.1 million, including $2 million provided by the California Energy Commission, funded approximately 2000 rebates.  In July 2011, the ARB allocated an additional $15 million to the CVRP which will fund about 5,600 vehicle rebates.
