Zero Emission Buses
This page last reviewed August 17, 2012
The Zero Emission Bus (ZBus) regulation is designed to encourage the operation and use of zero emission buses in California urban bus fleets. The ZBus Regulation is part of the Fleet Rule for Transit Agencies, which is also referred to as the Public Transit Agencies Regulation. During the 2006-2007 rulemaking the Board directed staff to review the technology and report to the Board on the status of the technology and the feasibility of implementing the purchase requirements as currently required. Staff began this review in May 2009 and presented a status report to the Board at public meeting on July 23, 2009 in San Diego, CA. See chronology of events below.

Workshops - May 20 and May 21, 2009
The Air Resources Board held two public workshops. The first was on May 20, 2009 at the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The second was on May 21, 2009 in Sacramento at 13th and T street. These workshops provided an update on ZBus technology, provided an opportunity to comment on suggested program changes that would enhance successful commercialization of ZBus’, and promoted reductions in smog and greenhouse gas emission from transit fleets. For more information, see the Workshop Notice.
